I was so busy having fun and learning new things that I almost forgot that my 8-year wedding anniversary fell right in the middle of the conference on June 25th – haha! This site is spoil leftover from the post-Civil War phosphate mining efforts in Charleston and contains fossils from the Oligocene through the Pleistocene. #event #collection_site

5 years ago5 years agoAt yesterday’s paleobotany lab meeting Dr. Debra Stults from the University of Southern Alabama spoke on the Citrenelle Formation of southern Alabama. This is the only Pliocene (3 million years ago) plant site in the eastern US. This is a picture of Liquidambar styraciflua (sweetgum), a tree that still lives in the south today. #fossil
