4 years, 7 months ago4 years, 7 months agoHi, @llundgren (don’t be too annoyed by me today, I just happened upon these in my queue). Want to add in Phylum Chordata. Do you know what bone this is and who it belongs to?
It looks kind of like an astragalus (ankle bone) to me? I’ll tag in some experts @smoran@rnarducci@jeanette-pirlo
Talk to you soon!
Jen-
P. sure it’s an astragalus. It was found during the FOSSIL PD in Nebraska a couple years ago.
-
it can be identified as far down as an artiodactyl @smoran will be better at identifying further from there
-
Yep! Indeed it is. The furthest it can be identified down is Tragulina…either in the family Leptomerycidae or Hypertragulidae.

I believe that’s what it is, a glyptodon scute. You can see the hexagonal ring on the surface. I’m not sure what that feature is called, actually, but I think I recognize it.

Possibly @jeanette-prilo @smoran or @rnarducci would be able to help you out. For getting images of different orientations of the fossil, I like to use clay or sand to position the specimen. Talk to you soon, Jen

I can’t speak to the number of students, last Adania said they hadn’t gotten a final count yet. I’m fine with whatever seems easiest. I don’t think we need to formally prepare anything. They have a formal panel the following day with grad students (?) so this would be a more informal setting for them to ask more targeted questions. I think it…[Read more]
