    Very well ! Yes I certainly expect improvements and additional datas. I’ve found some methods using bite marks size to estimate the size of the shark but they don’t seem adapted on associated dentitions without actual jaws structure since they take into account interdental spacing and actual curvature of the dentition in the calculation. Hence…[Read more]

    Hey Ronny @rleder  I’m glad to learn this ! Do you think it could be worth a paper or an article ? Meanwhile I keep gathering some data (as much as I can at my level). I’m sending you through email another figure showing directly the discrepancy in the dentition size.
    Best,

    Ted

    @rleder  Ronny,
    Thank you, you welcome ! I’d be very glad and proud that it results at the end in a publication. Certainly more data from others sets would be needed and I guess more summed dentitions measurements from white sharks individuals with known TL.
    Of course you can discuss this with Victor, actually we already had discussed earlier…[Read more]

    Hey Ronny @rleder ,

    Thank you for the kind words. I think that using dentition size for fossil macropredatory lamniforms has been already proposed a few times but I’ve always found strange that no one already had the idea to perform TL extrapolations from the available sets, though thinking about it I guess one of the reason was that they are…[Read more]

    Hello Ronny @rleder,

    Thank you for the response.

    Well I think Gottfried et al. simply scaled C. megalodon using isolated upper anterior tooth then inferred some allometry in the proportions derived from the great white shark. But I’m not sure if they decisively implied a larger dentition compared to body size. I think my suggestion was hinted by…[Read more]

    Hello everyone,

    I think a quite strong correlation between dentition size and body size has been observed in modern lamnids.

    Since we have several available C. megalodon complete or near complete sets of teeth, I’d suggest focusing on the size of the whole dentition (the largest component of the body we have from individuals of this species)…[Read more]
