Depending on the university earth science isn’t always the best route. I also strongly recommend doing undergraduate research. This shows potential advisors that you understand the research, publishing and conference aspects of paleontology. Classification, or taxonomy, is essentially a naming system to help people talk to one another about different organisms (plants, animals, microbes, you name it).
