5 years, 7 months ago5 years, 7 months agoHi Jenny! What’s the age of these? That first one looks like one of the syringoporid or syringophyllid tabulates… probably the latter since it doesn’t appear to have those tubes(stolons?) that connect the corallites

5 years, 10 months ago5 years, 10 months agoHi, Evan, thanks for the response. About the only Fe minerals around here are the typical oxides, pyrite, and siderite. This doesn’t appear to be any of those. I’m pretty sure this was organic… I can’t think of a sed structure or mineral that would produce something like it???

5 years, 10 months ago5 years, 10 months agoThis was collected, along with 5 similar pieces, from late Mid. Ord./early Late Ord. rocks in central Kentucky. It was recovered from a thin(~6cm) calcilutite bed that pinched out in a few meters which was sandwiched between thicker calcarenite beds of the Tanglewood Mb. of the Lexington Lm.
