Get ready for National Fossil Day!
The National Park Service and the American Geosciences Institute are partnering to host the fifth annual National Fossil Day on October 15, 2014 during Earth Science Week. National Fossil Day is a celebration organized to promote public awareness and stewardship of fossils, as well as to foster a greater appreciation of their scientific and educational value. We would love to hear from you about what you are doing to celebrate. Feel free to browse through the notes from our National Fossil Day discussion group, which took place in February at our FOSSIL Kickoff meeting. If you have any ideas you would like to share, or need help organizing or finding resources for National Fossil Day, contact Eleanor Gardner to inquire about our National Fossil Day working group.
How-to-Build-a-Junior-Paleontologist-Kit– Paul Roth, President of the Florida Paleontological Society, has prepared advice for creating your own Junior Paleontologist Kit. Paul, in collaboration with other Florida paleontologists, has created four fossil kits. These kits are housed at different National Parks, and used in NPS’s Junior Paleontologist program, as well as in local schools.
