Could it be a dugong rib fragment?
It does resemble a rib fragment but it is next to a dime, so it’s not that large. Also I see coral pieces on it so there are fossils here, just not what we thought it was.
Trying to figure out how to add another photo- it’s actually next to a quarter – not sure if that makes any difference though. It’s circumference is a little bigger than a quarter and it feels very solid/dense.
It could be the very end of the rib, but what’s throwing me off is the fossils on the fossil. It’s the color, shape, density, and size of a rib fragment, the only thing that’s off is the fossils on it. Or maybe you just found a 2 for 1 fossil.
Good point! Thank you so much for having a look- my kiddo just got into fossil hunting and I didn’t know where to start with actually learning about them.
It looks sort of like a ray tooth to me…… but maybe I’m wrong
Piece of a shell not a ray
