@mary-davis-2 @aiden-gore This is the stem of a horsetail relative called a Calamites. Each segment is called an internode. These plants make up a good deal of coal in Europe and North America. What is most fascinating about these plants is that they produced wood and grew up to be trees whereas most horsetails today are knee-high (a few tall ones in South America though those do not produce wood either). They reproduce with spores like ferns.
