Looks a little bit like a lumbar vertebrae from a whale.
@jared-shear Dinosaur vertebrae. Very nice!
How would I determine what kind of dinosaur? Are there markings that indicate type?
@mackenzie-smith
@jared-shear I do not know which type of dinosaur. And to be fair, it could be mammal though it would not be whale because oceans were not in Wyoming when whales evolved. You would need to know where in WY this was found and cross reference with a geological map to see if these were Mesozoic or Cenozoic rocks. If Mesozoic then dinosaur and if Cenozoic then mammal. I don’t know if there are enough diagnostic features on certain vertebrae to put them at a family level. That would be a question for a vertebrate paleontologist. (I’m on the plant side.)
