Is this a brachiopod or something else? #fossil

    • Looks like a brachiopod, order strophomenida

    • @a-trilobite thanks. it does look like that order

    • @a-trilobite do you know what type of rock this is in? how do I identify these rocks from the rest?

    • It might be sandstone, but I’m not sure. I also don’t know what the rest of the rocks in the area look like, but looking for specific colors, patterns, and textures helps

    • @a-trilobite is there a specific way to identify limestone from Sandstone? sandstone has a compressed grainy texture because of it being sand that has turned to stone

    • but I have no idea what limestone looks like

    • i searched online but they all look different

    • Limestone is generally gray and they’re made of calcium carbonate. The calcium actually comes from eroded pieces of shells, so technically every piece of limestone is a fossil of some kind. The outer surface of limestone is usually eroded and dull, but the inside still sparkles with reflective pieces of calcite. Less eroded pieces of limestone still have the shells they were made from intact, and these are called fossiliferous limestone. By far the most common fossils you’ll find in limestone (and the most common fossils on this app) are brachiopods, bivalves, crinoid stems, corals, orthacones, and bryozoans.
