Let’s start things out with some exciting news from my area of SoCal! Pleistocene-aged fossils, specifically a mammoth skull and tusks, have been discovered during construction of a tunnel for LA Metro (our version of a subway)! These fossils were uncovered by mitigation paleontologists and were located right next to the La Brea Tarpits! Once again, not many places in the world where you can find actual fossils in the middle of urban sprawl.

    • @gsantos I saw this LA Times article! I liked the way it was written, with the feedback from some paleo folks and the warning (?) that more fossils would probably be found. I hope they continue to do follow up stories. It so often seems that fossils are found during construction, and it makes the news, but the story isn’t necessarily followed up. I’m eager to see the story of the fossils. They’re supposed to go to the Natural History Museum of LA, right? It’d be fun to get a preparator from there involved here and see the progress!
