Found this tooth in southern California and nobody has been able to identify it. Any ideas?

    • Hi, Jerry! Have you learned any thing new about this tooth? I’ll tag some California fossil experts here and hopefully we can narrow down the classification for you. @michelle-barboza @jlipps @rboessenecker @gsantos

      • Hi Jennifer,
Have your experts had a chance to look at the tooth sample? Oh, I just added six new photos of another tooth that is not cleaned and hard to identify of course, but it’s strongly agreed that it came from the same animal of the animal in the first four photos you’ve seen. (recovered from the same location) Hope that helps. Have a good one,
        Jerry

      • Hi Jennifer,
I have deleted all other photos of the “tooth” and uploaded new. Note: These are two teeth which I believe belonged to the same animal in the photos. You can distinguish between the teeth by the color. The darkish teeth are all from the first tooth and the tan colored tooth is the other tooth. (Both teeth are about the size of a pea) Hope these help in the identification. Have a great Christmas and safe New Year.

    • It’s hard to tell, but I’m leaning towards barnacle.

      • Hi Victor, Actually, that’s what I collected it as, in the beginning. But “experts” in San Diego looked at it and they are sure it’s a tooth—-well, both samples now. They just don’t know what animal it’s from. Thank you for your response.

        • I will have to respectfully disagree with the San Diego experts. I’m fairly confident your fossils are internal molds of an invertebrate, with my best guess being a barnacle.

          • I am going to try to get photos of a “top view” of the samples and will post them if I do. Thank you so much. (May take a couple of weeks) Jerry
