Could someone explain to me what this would be, don’t know much about rocks #fossil

    • Not a fossil, but a nice piece with quartz or calcite crystals. To tell which it is you can find an inconspicuous place to scratch or drop an acid (vinegar is ok, I find lemon juice sometimes works better). Calcite will scratch or fizz, quartz will not. Sometimes it’s easier to hear it fizzing than see it.

    • if you don’t have any of that available, you could scratch with a steel pin/nail, if It scratches then it is calcite, if it doesn’t scratch then quartz as that has a moh hardness scale of 7

    • Ok thanks Corinne and Ben
