Hey all. When anyone goes collecting in or around Eastern NC, let me know!

    • Hi, @quent-lupton! Did you attend the Aurora Fossil Festival this past weekend? The Special Friends of the Aurora Fossil Museum led a field trip into the Belgrade quarry and then later folks got to collect from the old Lee Creek mine spoil piles. Definitely worth checking out the Friends group if you aren’t already familiar! 🙂 @lcone and @joyce-drakeford can tell you more!

      • Hi there @quent-lupton. There are several nice collecting places in eastern NC. If you like sifting in creeks, try Green’s Mill Run in Greenville, NC. You will find specimens from Cretaceous through Coors Lite! Exogyra, squalacorax, mosasaur, and other cretaceous finds are fairly common. Nice great whites and belemnites, megs and pleistocene fossils, also. A lot of fun. You MUST also visit the Aurora Fossil Museum in Aurora, NC. Its a little out of the way, but absolutely worth the 20 mile drive from New Bern or Washington, NC. It houses one of the best collections of Pliocene and Miocene fossil shark teeth anywhere.
        Enjoy
Lee Cone (Special Friends of the AFM)
