The day is finally here!  I am so excited to have you all join us for the week.  We have thousands of fossils to send back with you and I hope you are all ready to come up with some fabulous lessons to go with them!

Just a few last minute reminders:

Locals:  Ginny, we will see you on Wednesday and Scott, we will see you on Thursday!

    Travelers:

    1. You will be staying at the Holiday Inn on University Avenue (Address1250 W University Ave, Gainesville, FL 32601 Phone(352) 376-1661).  Your rooms will be ready for check in on Tuesday, August 1st.  Please be ready to present a credit card to cover any incidentals, or special arrangements made with me prior to your stay.
    2. For those flying into the Gainesville Airport, please call the Holiday Inn to have them send their complimentary shuttle for pick up. Phone(352) 376-1661.
    3. For those flying into the Orlando Airport, we have created a car pool schedule (please find attached). Eleanor will be arriving for the first group, and I will be arriving for the second group.  We will be waiting to meet our participants in the baggage claim area.  We will be holding a sign reading: “2017 FOSSILs for Teachers PD” to help you better identify us.  For the group traveling with me, we will be staying a bit longer at the airport, please grab food before exiting to the baggage claim area if you are arriving between 4-7:30pm.
    4. If anyone has travel issues, please contact me at 209-815-7280
    5. Transportation to and From Dickinson Hall: Dickinson Hall is approx. .8 miles from the Holiday Inn.  We are planning on having a shuttle from the hotel to Dickinson each morning, with the help of the hotel.  The hotel can accommodate up to 6 guests per shuttle. To avoid having you arrive at Dickinson too early, I will be helping shuttle participants to Dickinson.  There are 26 participants staying at the hotel.  I can take up to 10 people per trip.  We will begin shuttling participants at 7:45am. I will meet the first set of participants outside of the hotel.  Please plan to leave promptly at 7:50a.  The next shuttle will meet outside the hotel at 8:15a.  If you are interested in taking the more scenic route through campus, it is about a 20 minute walk from the hotel to Dickinson.  I have created a google docs sign up sheet so that we can organize Wednesday’s shuttle with a bit more ease.  We will see if this is an effective option for the rest of the week. Please follow the link to access the sign up sheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1FQTaFrL6KeokBJVmQKgcy6jJFfdjp0Ssk-GJXl8wWes/edit?usp=sharing
    6. Scott, Ginny and Ta-Shana, we will be proving parking permits since you are local. When you arrive to Dickinson, please park, initially, under the overhang, call me (209-815-7280) so we can bring you your permit.  You will be able to park in any orange lot.
    7. Breakfast will need to be picked up on your own. Travelers, there is a Publix (grocery store) around the corner from your hotel, as well as various breakfast places (Dunkin’ Donuts, etc.) within walking distance from the hotel. Please account for this extra time when taking the shuttle, or walking to Dickinson in the morning.  We will begin promptly at 8:30a each morning in Classroom 371 inside Dickinson.  We will be providing coffee and small snacks in the morning as well as a full lunch.

I think this is all I have for now.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

    See you all soon!
