6 years, 3 months ago6 years, 3 months agoAbout Me:
- I am a first year Ph.D. student in the Department of Biology at the University of Florida. I am still figuring out my research for my degree, but I am interested in sharks, particularly, using paleontology to affect change in public policy for conservation efforts in modern sharks. I received my B.Sc. degree in Marine Biology from the University of California, Santa Cruz. I am new to paleontology, with only a year and a half in the field, but, after my first experience at Montbrook, I was instantly hooked! Along with paleontology, I am fully invested in educational outreach both in formal, classroom settings, and informal community events. I am excited to see everyone again, and for those I do not yet know, to get to know you and have you join us in the field!
- I am a graduate student, so I will be teaching undergraduates in the near future, but I have K-12 experience. I worked at Pajaro Valley High School in Watsonville, CA, and taught Geometry.
- The GABI is a unique, and fascinating event. The oceanographic changes, due to the new continental buffer that arose, were huge. Species were separated, limiting gene flow between Caribbean and Pacific populations.
- I am most interested in understanding the timing of when individual species made the migration and understand what may have drove them to migrate.
- Lesson idea: I do not have any specific lesson in mind, but I am looking forward to everyone’s ideas and helping out with the science aspect!
