    • Interesting topic! Were you able to determine which factors impacted feather preservation?

      • We mainly stuck to the fundamentals of feather preservation such as depositional environment, lithology, ect. Size may also have a role to an extent as many of the theropods preserved with feather impressions are under 10 kg. But overall there were mostly no surprises regarding depositional environments. However, there are feathered ornithomimids in the Dinosaur Provincial Park area that had coalified traces of feathers which have some of the original beta keratin intact. It may have something to do with surrounding ironstone deposits, but work is currently being done by Aaron Van Der Reest on how exactly they were preserved with feathers in a fluvial environment. Also after talking with Peter Larson, he has reported fossil feather impressions found associated with two unidentified caenagnathids, and even a possible feather impression found associated with Wyrex! Both were found in oxbow deposits in the Hell Creek Formation.
