5 years, 2 months ago5 years, 2 months agoCurrently working out the leaf architecture in a 44 million year old leaf from Oregon. Possibly Castanea? (Chestnut) This leaf is obovate, serrated teeth along the margine and sinuous tertiary veins (more obvious near the top/apex). #fossil
Wow! This is so well-preserved that it looks like any old leaf that you could pick up while hiking.
This is partly because of the ash but the downside is that it breaks funny. We have cuticle on a few specimens which is rare in North American localities.
