This twig has several insects surrounding it that have been carbonized so finely that you can even make out the stripes on their backs! The Green River Formation is a fantastic area for carbonized fossils – the Florrisant Fossil Beds, part of the same formation, have some of the best preserved in the world. If you’re ever in Colorado, I definitely reccommend a visit!
