Hi, all – I received these images in an email this morning along with this text: The attached pictures are of an item we found at an estate sale. The previous auctioneer stated that it was donated by a museum near the Bok tower for an auction. The tag found with this fossil just had a note that it was between 6000-9000 years old.  No other information.Dr. Farke commented, ‘If the fossil was found in Florida, it might be one of the Ice Age mammal bones that pops up fairly frequently in some rivers in the state.’ He also commented that , ‘it looks like it might be the head of a femur (thigh bone)’ There isn’t really a scale but any ideas? I agree with most of what Andy said but I don’t have the expertise to identify it further. @jeanette-pirlo@smoran@bmacfadden

    • I’d agree with what Andy said, it’s certainly the femoral head of a mammal. Due to its fragmentary nature and lack of scale or geologic context, I can’t go further than that.
