Nathan Newell has contributed specimen mFeM 54239 to myFOSSIL!

    • Hi, @nathan-newell– Do you have a local guide book that helped you ID to the species level? I’m having some difficultly with some basic searches in my usual portals. I just wanted to check in before marking it research grade. There are no occurrences of this species on iDigBio so it could be really impactful!

      • Hi, @jbauer ! I mistakenly put myself as the identifier, but it was actually identified by Charlie Smith, who posted in this thread:

A little help with this brachipod, please…

Now that you ask, I can’t find pictures of keyserensis so I can’t say for sure one way or the other. What do you think?

        • Excellent! Well, Charlie’s process of elimination certainly makes sense to me. It’s really hard with genera like Spirifer, because it’s been tossed so many species for so long – who knows what’s real or not! It’s definitely several careers worth of projects. I couldn’t find any images either. I’m going to add it to my to-do list to check in the collections here at Michigan. I start next week and maybe once I get settled I can find a similar specimen or an old reference that can help. Or maybe I can find a willing student to invest some time in brachiopod taxonomy!!
