It tends to be fairly difficult to identify stingray tail spines past the order Myliobatiformes. I have seen one paper that describes differences between different species. But that may not be possible since the tip of your specimen is broken. The paper I read is called “Tail spine characters of stingrays (order Myliobatiformes) frequenting the FAO fishing area 61…” by Frank Schwartz. Your specimen likely came from the Coosawhatchie Formation if was found in a Gainesville creek.
