Hi, @nathan-newell – really cool specimen.
I did some research and have some links to share with you.
First, I think we can update your geochronology to Epoch Middle Devonian > Age Eifelian
Here is the link: https://macrostrat.org/sift/#/strat_name_concept/2961
The other thing I found is just cool so, I use iDigBio a lot to confirm classification etc. some museum have uploaded images of fossils, the Yale Peabody Collection is particularly good at this and they have a bunch of this species!
If you head to https://www.idigbio.org/portal/search use Scientific Name as your search field type in the species name (make sure it doesn’t end in a space) and click the check box for Must have media – a bunch will pop up. You’ll have to click on a specimen to view it and scroll down to the media (not super user friendly) – the files are also blank but if you click download it will open in a new tab. This is incredibly cool because there are NEVER many (if ANY) media files! Yay trilobites!
Talk to you soon,
Jen
@jbauer Thanks for the tips Jen! iDigBio looks like a great resource, I’ll definitely play around with it. I love the pictures and I think I can use it to find some cool places in Virginia to collect trilobites!
Yes! iDigBio has sooo much cool information. The portal is not *super* user friendly but if you poke around enough you’ll catch on quickly. You can also download CSV files – so if you want to search for something specific that would be easier so you can search via the find tool in excel.
@jbauer Yeah, that’s a great idea. I can just narrow everything down to just Virginia/West Virginia fossils that way. Thanks again!
