David Clark has contributed specimen mFeM 50719 to myFOSSIL!

    • Hi, @david-clark – these are two separate specimens, is that correct? If you are interested, we can separate them into two occurrences – this will allow them to be migrated to iDigBio for others to find during their searches. You could also update the geochron to include Mississippian, I think the age is Visean but you’ll have to double check. Here is what Macrostrat has on the formation: https://macrostrat.org/sift/#/strat_name_concept/1808

These are particularly cool because of the coloration patterns!!

I’m sure you have read Harold Beaver’s study on the coloration patterns in Pentremites? It would be interesting to replicate the O’Malley & Ausich’s work on biomarkers in Mississippian crinoids with Pentremites. They suggested there were evolutionary implications but I wasn’t really following. But we could surely test it with Pentremites since I have a working tree, I would just have to add some more species!

      • Hello Jenn – These are two specimens. I think I have 4-5 total. I should probably create new entries with better pictures. I entered these a few years ago and the picture quality isn’t the best.

I’ve heard of Harold Beaver’s study, but I don’t think I have a copy. I have seen O’Malley & Ausich crinoid biomarkers. This is the only locality I know of with blastoid color patterns. I think Alex Fabian may have another Mississippian site in Indiana that was published, but I think they are also Pentremites. That might even be the Harold Beaver study.

I’ll try to clean up the pictures and entries soon!

        • That’s excellent you have so many! I think most of his specimens are still hidden away at Baylor rather than in their proper homes. I send you a direct message with a link to my Dropbox with some of his papers!
