I found this in a bunch of rocks in the yard of a house I was cleaning to sell. Just stood out to me and I took a look and it really looks like a petrified egg.

    • Hi, @jesse-trujillo– what’s the closest town to where you found it? From this image is looks like a rock to me but having the location will give us more geologic context.

    • Maybe a stromatolite? I have seen photos of them still growing in the ocean shallows in Australia.
Sometimes people bring home geological souvenirs and their families just throw them in the yard when tasked with estate responsibilities😣.
Maybe you could determine who used to live there. Also, there might be other geological discoveries awaiting!
I remember an older lady in our town (in Central Florida) whose husband had had a long career as a geologist, traveling the world. She had to move into assisted living and offered the rocks – all unlabeled – to our elementary school. Our assistant principal volunteered his help and his pick-up truck! When we arrived she was naming all the far flung origins of the rocks and he’s throwing them into the bed of the truck. What a loss.
