We went out looking for fossils today and I found this and a few others about 30 k’s east of Geraldton .

    • Hi, @elizabeth-jenkin – It’s hard to tell what this is. It looks like some kind of shelly maybe a mollusk but I’m hesitant to make any guesses. Is it still in situ or were you able to bring any of the fossils home? I’m also unfamiliar with the location, could you include the country as well? I can look up the locality on a geologic map to narrow down the age.

    • Hi thank you so much, I wasn’t able to bring it home as there was a few in a massive rock. The country Australia and I found it in bushland about 25 k’s east of Geraldton. I long the Geraldton Mount magnet Road

    • Aloha, looks like an imprint of a marine neogastropod—possibly in the superfamily: Conoidea—maybe narrowing down some might be a distant relative of the turrids we have today. It’s on a guess though…but interesting broad spiral cords. There is a lot of material from the Miocene that’s being worked on…I have found new items in the Pleistocene—so my guess we could have an un-known—getting the critter in hand would shed more light. The Miocene specimens seem to be placed into entirely different families and genera—these species are the backbone of what we have today. Nice find.

    • Hopefully I can go back out there this weekend and take some more photos and do some measuring and maybe even take an imprint
