Matthew Gramling has contributed specimen mFeM 65717 to myFOSSIL!

    • Hi, @Matthew-Gramling, do you know what geological unit these came from?

    • Not with certainty. All the specimens from Walker County I have posted are from one collection site. Rockd has the area marked as Silurian Red Mountain Formation. The problem with the site is that there is a lot of erosion and float from other formations.

    • The matrix is a blue-gray fissile shale, which I initially thought was limestone. But, upon conducting an acid test no reaction with any carbonate occured.

    • Also, I should mention that all the photos posted here are a single tabulate coral specimen. The last is an external mold of the fossil.
