Hi, @Matthew-Gramling! Do you know what rock unit this came from? If not, https://macrostrat.org/ is a really useful tool.
Greetings @samantha-ocon! That’s a very good question which I’ve struggled with over the past several months. Accordingto Rockd, the Favosites specimen originate from an area represented by the Silurian Red Mountain Formation. But, there is considerable float material around the collection site . Thus, it’s difficult determine. The surrounding rock units are Ft. Payne Chert, Red Mountain, and Chickmauga Group. Chattanooga Shale is also present, but it’s very recognizable black shale that is sparsely fossiliferous.
My best estimation is that it’s from the Chickamauga Group or some shale member of the Red Mountain.
Based on the location, @Cameron-Muskelly might be able to help here!
possibly Favosites sp.
