@willis-dc Hi Diane! I hope you and your husband have made it safely home! Loved seeing you at the conference. If I recall, you found a fairly rare trilobite at one of the field trip locations, right? I’d love to see it up close (I didn’t get a good chance to in the field!). When you get a moment, you should post a picture of it in the fossils section of this website!

    • Hi Lisa, I’m not sure how this communication method works, but I got your message re the trilobite, have unpacked the fossils and cleaned most of them, and will take a picture of the trilobite soon and try to post it. (How?) Maybe you could enlighten me as to how this communication system works, too, please! Do lots of people see this, or just the person to whom I’m writing? Thanks so much! Bob and I loved this conference, and want to thank all who were involved in making it so successful! — Diane

    • HI Diane (@willis-dc), Sure thing–this is a public message on your activity feed, meaning that anyone on the myFOSSIL website can see it. There is a way to send private messages to people. If you click on someone’s name (for instance, my name), you’ll be taken to my activity feed. In the top right black box, you’ll see you lighter boxes. One is labeled “direct message.” That’s how you send private messages to another user. The other box is “Request Friend,” meaning that you can ask to be someone’s “friend” on myFOSSIL and get updates from them in your own activity feed.
Eleanor (@egardner) created a video tutorial on uploading fossil specimens to the gallery. The video is excellent, and can be seen here: http://community.myfossil.org/forums/topic/how-to-upload-a-fossil-to-the-fossil-gallery/. Here’s a quick summary though: 1. Click on “Fossils” at the top of the page. 2. Click “Create a new fossil” on the right hand side of the screen. 3. Click “Published” so that all members of the myFOSSIL website can see the fossil (if you leave your fossil as a draft, the fossil will be visible ONLY to you). 4. Click “manage images” and add images of your fossil. 5. Fill in all the taxonomic and geographic information you know! Make sure to click “save” in each section so you don’t lose your info.
If you have other questions, I am happy to answer them. We also have a FAQs page that has answers to a lot of common questions: http://community.myfossil.org/faq/
Hope this helps! Looking forward to seeing your photos! 🙂 -Lisa
