    • it’s all just evolution. silk may have evolved by spiders in the first place to build shelters, or to be spat at prey in order to entrap it, or to be used as a safety line just like in modern jumping spiders. The first spiders to have tried out webs probably built messy looking things like a daddy-long-legs cobweb. the technique was refined to pefection over a long long time, but that is not the real point of course. we must find out how it was passed on. obviously it must be instinct, what else can it be? since webspinning was not an instantaneous occurence in arachnids, that gave time for the instinctive programming to adjust slightly over the millions of generations in accordance with the progression of webspinning development. PHEW! that was fun…
