Corinne has contributed specimen mFeM 73906 to myFOSSIL!

    • Hi @corinne-daycross! I just shared this with the other paleobotanists in my labgroup and we don’t know what it is. It is likely a Eudicot. What we can say though is that it is a fruit and that it is actually upside down. The long part is the pedicil (where the fruit attaches to the branch). The bulbous part is the fruit (capsular or fleshy?) and the stout bottom part is a persistent style (column that connects the stigma (site of pollination) to the ovary). We can also see sepal scars at the base so we know the flower it came from was hypogenous (sepals and petals below the ovary). Could be in Rosaceae? It’s a cool find and I don’t think there is anything like that known.

    • @mackenzie-smith Thank you! If this is an area that someone is working on I’m happy to share what I can. Science > Ownership in my world, if it’s important please have someone contact me. I’ll see if there’s someone at the Utah Field House who might know more too.
