Any ideas on what this might be @jbauer? Or who might have an idea?
Hi @patrick-hsieh & @smoran – I agree that it looks like a spatangoid. It is really hard to tell if there is still shell material? You may be able to use the Echinoid directory to get a finer identification: https://www.nhm.ac.uk/our-science/data/echinoid-directory/taxa/extension.jsp?id=584
@smoran & @jbauer I believe this is an internal mold, I could not find any traces of shell material. I uploaded another specimen that still had traces of shell, but it was unfortunately incomplete. In the literature for this locality I could find, Hemiaster californicus was the only identified echinoid. (https://www.jstor.org/stable/1304314?seq=1)
