Greetings @smoran ! Any insights into narrowing down the taxonomy of this specimen?
Hi @matthew-gramling, based on the size my best guess is that it is the distal humerus from a traguline (either Hypertragulus or Leptomeryx, though it could also be something like the small oreodont Miniochoerus gracilis). We can rule out any of the small carnivores as it lacks a entepicondylar foramen. I’m not around my comparative specimens now, but when I am next I’ll take a look at and see if I can narrow it down further. If you can get your hands on it, there’s a great series of monographs from the late 1930’s early 1940’s by Scott and Jepsen that have excellent figures of White River Group mammals.
Thank you @smoran ! I greatly appreciate the help and I will have to see if I can obtain those monographs.
