Unidentified fish
Reallly cool! 😁
Where is it from?
fossil shop lol 🙂
l have found very few fossils myself. everything l post has been purchased from vendors or in a few cases found many years ago by my parents
once it’s safe to go out again, l want to go on a well earned fossil hunt, as it’s been a while @daniel-park
Oh ok then lol. I was going to say genus Knightia and just wanted a location to check, since it’s one of the most excavated fossil fish in the world.
That’s odd though that the shop didn’t say what species the fish was/what genus the fish belonged to. Hm.
Also because pictures of genus Knightia and this fossil look similar
they never do over here. they use labels like “coral, stromatolite, crinoid stems, shells, fish, shark teeth, ammonite, whale tooth, assorted bones, mosasaur teeth” and other nonspecific terms
(referring to the fossil shops)@daniel-park
did some research just now, Leptolepis is a more likely candidate
or maybe not….
hard to be sure
