3 years, 7 months ago3 years, 7 months agomFeM 84324 I found these rocks in a Manassas Sandstone exposure. They’re dated to the late Triassic. Anyone have any idea what these are fossils of?
This looks like some type of plant to me, in which case @mackenzie-smith might be able to help.
Thanks! @daniel-park
@jacob-polzin Sorry for the late response. I sent these pictures to my girlfriend since I didn’t recognize it and she studies Mesozoic plants and focuses mainly on the Triassic and Jurassic. We can certainly see why you thought plant though. Because therapod tracks have been found in the Manassas, do you think it could be a fluvial structure? My mind also goes to some invertebrates but it wasn’t deep marine. Short answer though, it’s not plant.
I have found a pocket of significant vegetation deposition and will link you to it as I post them. The vegetation appears to be semi-petrified wood, branches, and leaves. Sorry I haven’t provided all of the samples yet, I’m posting these basically as I find them but I will have several more on tonight. @mackenzie-smith
It could be a fluvial structure or branches as I’ve found these structures exuding from the sides of what looks to be petrified wood.
could be invertebrate tracks but maybe just interestingly eroded rock
out of question how do you link photos from myFOSSIL to Google?
