3 years, 7 months ago3 years, 7 months agoThe footprint I found in the clay beds at hill head!
Can someone identify this for me of the possible footprints origin of animal! #fossil
that can’t be mistaken for anything else in the world. You are holding an ornithopod footprint!
Really!
I found it in the clay of Hill Head which isn’t related to having a Mesozoic formation
But, there is a beach on the opposite side of the solent. Where someone found a theropod footprint!
it could also be theropod, in fact
but round toes indicate ornithopod usually
the fact that it has 3 toes proves it’s a dinosaur or bird, and the shape of the foot rules out birds
unless there are 3 toed small ungulates then l don’t know what else apart from dinosaur it could be
makes me think of the Valley of Gwangi, thinking of 3 toed small ungulates XD. forgive my stupid, stupid, clever brain
This would be groundbreaking
Due to no dinosaur remains have ever been found in this area!!!
l actually actually feel your joy as my own, finnily enough. seeing you post a bunch of weird rocks and mysterious vertebrae all this time, and then seeing you turn up something that can raise some eyebrows real high in the paleo community; makes me feel like a father who’s proud of his little boy growing up
sounds stupid, but nevertheless I congratulate you
at least till some smarty pants comes along and tells us that this is just some common footprint or a rock formation
a lot of people get their hopes dashed away on this app
I knoe
Know
You get hyped and then you lose everything you’ve ever got excited about as well as the importance of the object. Nevertheless, if it’s from a prehistoric animal then I’ll be happy to add it to my collection of fossils!
If it’s from something that’s never been found before in this area, including any dinosaur evidence, then this could get big and receive lots of publicity!!!!!!
@jbauer or @smoran may be able to help with this one.
How do I get her attention?
For this?
Hi @jack-parker-tyreman, I hate to walk this back a little bit, but I’m skeptical that this is fossil. Typically footprints are found in clayey environments that end up lithifying as shale (or, in some more uncommon incidences, sandy environments that lithify as sandstone). It’s hard to tell from the photo what exactly the rock type is, but it could very well be chert. I think it’s most likely that this is a rounded river cobble that has eroded in such a way that it looks like it could be a trace fossil. I don’t see anything in the photo to make me believe its fossil. Hope that helps!
don’t lose hope! take it to a muesuem and they could help. So amazed!
this could be groundbreaking! I think that it might be a new sort of substance with Dino remains!
This was found in a clayey environment
definetly rare.
Any update?
Not yet
I don’t think I’ll go to a museum for a while because of the pandemic and restrictions
But, I’ll keep everyone posted when I get something back 😁
