3 years, 6 months ago3 years, 6 months agoIs this fossil wood or vertebrae this is from Shanklin which dates to an early Cretaceous sea bed where vectovenator was discovered. #fossil
FOSSIL WOOD. as I said earlier
Yes but I saw some pictures of vertebrae with the same patterning on
What is that patterning? I have a piece that has the same on
With the crack
If it’s a vertebrae @matthew-gramling or @smoran could help, if it’s wood @mackenzie-smith could confirm.
Thanks @daniel-park !!! It’s a possibility, but it still looks like a pseudo-fossil to me. It’s frankly hard to tell from this photo. I really don’t see anything distinctive like porous cellular structure that would indicate it’s bone. Also, here is a myfossil tutorial for improving photo quality and digitizing your collection:
@matthew-gramling would you mind if I tag you in a fossil of mine to Id please? I’m not sure if it’s bone or wood
@bo-nichol Feel free!
those disc shaped marks grab my interest. could be a mineral though, infiltrating the main rock
@jack-parker-tyreman It’s not wood. That much I can tell you. I don’t see grain.
Ok good
Thanks so much
I did put some other photos
So I’ll tag all of you
@matthew-gramling WHATS your YouTube account called because I can’t copy the link 😢
Didn’t mean to put that in caps
Greetings @jack-parker-tyreman ! It’s the same as my name on here I believe. But, I’ve look at the other photos of the specimen and I still don’t believe it’s bone. It does have a vertebra-like shape, but the composition as demonstrated by your photos does not lead me to believe it is bone or plant material. If you would like a second opinion you could always contact someone at the Dinosaur Isle Museum near you.
Yeah, tried that and their email doesn’t work
