Chloe Geddes has contributed specimen mFeM 87186 to myFOSSIL!

    • @mackenzie-smith could help.

    • nice

    • @daniel-park @chloe-geddes Yep, it’s wood. The problem with wood is that it has to be identified in a lab. We have to take cross sections of the specimen and then look at the cellular structure under the microscope so I can’t put a name on it. The only fun tid-bit I can add is that there were a lot of forest fires during the Cretaceous so it we often find charcoalified wood. In NJ and parts of Europe people screen the ash for other plant parts (flowers). It’s rather difficult to do though I haven’t done it before.

    • I have made several thin section this fall and it’s definitely a comfier of sorts. I’m leaning towards a bald cypress, it’s on the coasts of the Cretaceous Interior Seaway. Thinking it’s a storm deposit because all logs but no roots or real leaves yet. Thanks for responding though!!
