3 years, 6 months ago3 years, 6 months agoI found this in a creek bed that has been eroding lately it was submerged and only a portion was out of the gray blueish clay
the skull of a wild pig
As @leonardo-miranda said, wild boar skull and not exactly a fossi yet.
COOL!
I have an appointment Thursday, the curator at the museum wants to see it in person. I’ll update y’all after that.
That would look rad over a stone fireplace, haha! Or on a stack of old books on a table next to a super over stuffed chair with an old lamp and a huge magnifying glass! So cool! We do NOT have stuff like that in Utah! Haha! Great find!
Could be a peccary
what country is it from? peccaries live in North America
I’m in the United States. We are in Calvert County, Maryland. The exact area is called Huntingtown. I’m on the Patuxent River side of huntingtown, the area spans from the river to the Chesapeake bay. The skull was found in a creek leading to the river. It was originally packed in the clay. It was a bluish gray clay. I washed it out.
Peccaries lived across North America during the ice age. Of the two teeth found in Wisconsin, I have the second. Both found in the same place, the first with a twelve inch spear point with it.
did some research, this is definitely a peccary skull and not a pig. it is decided
The gentleman at the museum said it’s not peccary. I’m a little disappointed but he said he thinks it’s about 500 years old.
To qualify as a fossil, it must be 10,000+ years old.
Yes I know that. I was unaware of how old it was…. until I took it to the museum.
