3 years, 6 months ago3 years, 6 months agoA tribute to the alvarezsaurids, the one fingered anteater-like dinosaurs! A puzzling evolutionary oddity
third in the series. First was Diplomoceras, then the ancestral camels, now the alvarezsaurids.
Looks like a chicken trying to be an emu
@a-trilobite and with some kiwi bird mixed in somewhere
I thought Kiwis weren’t actually birds
aka the weirdest Dinosaurs
@a-trilobite of course kiwis are birds. what did you think they are? fruit? XD
I looked it up and I’m half-right. Kiwis are actually birds, but have so many mamallian traits that they are actually classified as an honorary mammal. And also a green fruit.
biologically they are birds. relatives of ostriches and emus. but yes, @a-trilobite , they are jokingly assumed to be mammals because they look and behave like some kind of chicken-mice. truly bizarre creatures….
Well although they’re birds, they have so many mammalian traits that they are classified as honorary mammals.
yep
of course, octopuses are classified as honorary vertebrates too so that they can be included in anti animal cruelty laws
@a-trilobite so an honorary classification is not intended to be scientifically literal
Invertebrates aren’t animals?
Why did I say the same thing twice? My bad
invertebrates are animals, @a-trilobite , but unfortunately those laws only seem to apply to vertebrates, especially mammals, because invertebrates are not ‘sentient’ like vertebrates. octopuses are as clever as dolphins, so they deserve fair treatment. in fact, all animals deserve fair treatment even if they aren’t of higher intelligence
@a-trilobite l also sometimes send the same message twice. it happens when it’s not uploading and you start pressing the post button again and again
Except mosquitoes. I don’t see the purpose of an insect that sucks our blood and spreads disease, and even if the male ones pollinate there are far better pollinators out there….
@daniel-park mozzies are truly annoying. but they don’t necessarily have to be of use to humans. no animal has to. animals evolve to do something that keeps them alive. mozzies saw these walking blood tanks and thought “hey, there’s a food source nobody else is using. let’s take advantage of it.” if there were no mozzies, humans and flowers would gave no problem, but the mozzies were never required to be of any use (many animals depend on them for food, so that’s one important function that they have). humans after all are themselves a species who has absolutely no benefit to any other species on Earth
