3 years, 6 months ago3 years, 6 months agoWhat is it? I found it while digging in my yard. It’s heavy, has bubble like indentions and kind of shiny #fossil
I can’t see properly but I think fossil wood with iron pyrite. (probably wrong though)
I added two more pics
It is volcanic glass, very fun!
slag
definetly not wood! probably volcanic glass as @chloe-geddes said
Where is Clarion? The geographic setting of a rock or fossil is very important in identifying it. Chloe could be right. Those holes look like vesicles which form in pumice and scoria, both volcanic rocks. But drsuk could be right too. Industrial slag can look very similar to volcanic glass. It is the waste from separating ores and burning coal. Geographic location and other views would help a lot too
Clarion is in the northwest of Pennsylvania .
I thought it was volcanic glass at first as well. After looking at the location of Clarion on a geologic map, there are no volcanic rocks listed in the area. What is listed in the area is coal. This is undoubtedly a clinker from the burning of coal, i.e. slag.
I’m inclined to the idea that it is slag, I do live in a old mining area
