    • I don’t know the species but this is an incredible specimen! The top (bumpy part) shows the suture patter that tells you it is an ammonite. It is a dark line that can be seen on the right side of the photo. Ammonites have the squiggly sutures so that they can live deeper in the ocean whereas nautilus have straight chambers which aren’t as strong and therefore can’t live in that high of pressures. The under side of your fossil is actually the cross section of the ammonite so you can see where the animal would have actually been living! So cool!!
