    Crazy squid thing! #fossil

    • I identified this as part of the Cephalopods, and it is the Vampyonassa. Very nice preserved.

    • From the picture it looks like pyrite but the picture is blurry can you add more pictures? Pyrite is not a fossil

    • This is not pyrite I’m gemologist the is no metallic luster, and no crystal structure formation. This is a true body fossil the surface is slimly with oil and water are applied.

    • I don’t see it. I see a rock. Location? Vampyonassa was identified from the Jurassic of France. The key feature identifying it was preserved suckers, which do not appear in your image.

    • I have a picture of the back where gill like formations are present and close up of the front and back show organism features not uniform banding or conglomerate deposits, the specimen has no fracture points but instead has a pattern consistent with a cephalopod.
