FOSSIL UPLOAD
First, make sure you have a myFOSSIL account, this is required to upload your fossil information. If you are interested in seeing if your fossil can be used for research purposes, please follow through the following steps. They walk you through the information needed and why it is helpful for other scientists to use it for research questions. Even if the information you have on your fossil is not enough to be used for research purposes it will still benefit the community through educational means and help others identify their fossils. Specimens that have sufficient information will be uploaded to iDigBio and GBIF (Global Biodiversity Information Facility) for public accessibility.

Hi, @chetara-conner, any idea what animal this bone came from? Maybe some of our vertebrate experts can chime in to help: cc @jeanette-pirlo, @smoran, @samantha-ocon
No idea. I think they researched some when I originally submitted it and concluded it was of a deer species. I found it on Panama City Beach, in the water. Yes I said Deer. I am not at all educated in the scientific name of mammals. haha
So this looks like an astragalus (ankle bone) of an artiodactyl (even-toed hoofed mammal). Could you please take a picture facing the direction where your thumb is located on the fifth image? I do not know if this is a deer though, but not because it may not be a deer, but because I do not know my artiodactyl astragali very well. Also, don’t…[Read more]
