FOSSIL UPLOAD
First, make sure you have a myFOSSIL account, this is required to upload your fossil information. If you are interested in seeing if your fossil can be used for research purposes, please follow through the following steps. They walk you through the information needed and why it is helpful for other scientists to use it for research questions. Even if the information you have on your fossil is not enough to be used for research purposes it will still benefit the community through educational means and help others identify their fossils. Specimens that have sufficient information will be uploaded to iDigBio and GBIF (Global Biodiversity Information Facility) for public accessibility.
If you have already gone through the stepwise process that explains each piece of data please click through to a summary tab where you can enter in your specimen data on a single page.

Hi @Kevin-Kelly! Great specimen. @VPerez or @Bill-Heim should be able to help you with specimen identification.
Carcharodon planus

See that too, fixed.
Also the taxon wizard doesn’t contain Carcharodon planus, I can only select to the level of Carcharodon, then forced to type planus in the species field manually. Is there a way to add Carcharodon planus to the taxon wizard?
Hi, @Kevin-Kelly! I don’t think we can manually edit the taxon wizard because I believe it is sourced from the PBDB.
Hi @Samantha-Ocon @bill-heim @vperez– I contacted PBDB and they said in order to use Carcharodon planus as the current name, they’d need to link the name in the database to a published reference with that opinion. They said from a quick search it appeared that the taxonomy of Isurus/Carcharodon/Cosmopolitodus is unsettled, but if you can send me a…[Read more]
Sharks are not my wheelhouse, so I’m gonna page @Bill-Heim and @VPerez again.
