FOSSIL UPLOAD
First, make sure you have a myFOSSIL account, this is required to upload your fossil information. If you are interested in seeing if your fossil can be used for research purposes, please follow through the following steps. They walk you through the information needed and why it is helpful for other scientists to use it for research questions. Even if the information you have on your fossil is not enough to be used for research purposes it will still benefit the community through educational means and help others identify their fossils. Specimens that have sufficient information will be uploaded to iDigBio and GBIF (Global Biodiversity Information Facility) for public accessibility.
If you have already gone through the stepwise process that explains each piece of data please click through to a summary tab where you can enter in your specimen data on a single page.

hi i would try to first brush of any loose swdiments with a mild toothbrush. maybe some clean water. i would not any chemicals or vinegar….
or with some dental pick tools.
Dip it in hot and soapy water and then if any sediment isn’t coming off use an old toothbrush to clean it up and brush it up
Your fossil is very, very ancient
It would date back to the Cambrian era
That would have originated from the first era in the history of complex life (542 million years ago to 488 million years ago)
WOW 😳 thank you so much for the advice and info! I had no idea!! I have a few more that I found in the same place 😁 I will clean them up and post pics!! Thanks again ❤️
@jack-parker-tyreman not so sure about the Cambrian. Brachiopods existed from the Cambrian to present day, and New York isn’t that old. If it was found in a gravel pit, it could’ve been imported from somewhere else.
They dig and sort their own gravel from the land there.
