FOSSIL UPLOAD
First, make sure you have a myFOSSIL account, this is required to upload your fossil information. If you are interested in seeing if your fossil can be used for research purposes, please follow through the following steps. They walk you through the information needed and why it is helpful for other scientists to use it for research questions. Even if the information you have on your fossil is not enough to be used for research purposes it will still benefit the community through educational means and help others identify their fossils. Specimens that have sufficient information will be uploaded to iDigBio and GBIF (Global Biodiversity Information Facility) for public accessibility.
If you have already gone through the stepwise process that explains each piece of data please click through to a summary tab where you can enter in your specimen data on a single page.

piranha?
seahorse don’t usually look like that fossilsed. use tools to reveal the whole thing
thanks for your help
but i dont know how
use small chisels
the “seahorse” might just be a dark smudge. the other object is a fish
l don’t recommend chiseling out flat shale slab fossils. they’re typically small boned and delicate. And what is on the surface is all there is
oh. thanks @leonardo-miranda
I once tried to find more fish in a slab I brought at a shop with a fish on. I thought it was a good idea but its not
once l demolished a beautiful ammonite with a screwdriver while digging out the clam shells stacked under it
ouch
Oh and im sorry for not reacting, the reason why is that i live in Holland and there is the time diffrent
@leonardo-miranda I smashed my FIRST fossil out of the rock with a hammer. It cracked. it was an ammonite too
my first fossil that i found was a Brachiopod, found at the beach
Well done dyon hunting!
thanks
😁
if you want to get to the fish underneath and this hasn’t been sealed a pin will generally flake off the shale and leave the base fossil. be gentle and go slow, but it’d how a bunch of the commercial guys prep things.
