FOSSIL UPLOAD
First, make sure you have a myFOSSIL account, this is required to upload your fossil information. If you are interested in seeing if your fossil can be used for research purposes, please follow through the following steps. They walk you through the information needed and why it is helpful for other scientists to use it for research questions. Even if the information you have on your fossil is not enough to be used for research purposes it will still benefit the community through educational means and help others identify their fossils. Specimens that have sufficient information will be uploaded to iDigBio and GBIF (Global Biodiversity Information Facility) for public accessibility.
If you have already gone through the stepwise process that explains each piece of data please click through to a summary tab where you can enter in your specimen data on a single page.

Greetings @avy-grey ! I’m afraid from your photo I can see nothing that resembles a Burgessia fossil. To be truthful, this looks more like a rock than a fossil.

I know that everyone on this platform is a professional paleontologists and I’m just a stupid wanta be, but if you can please use another word other then rock I might take you seriously. If I could post more then one picture at a time I would.
I think a better picture might help us see something more than rock! And nobody is a stupid wanna be – it’s the interest that counts! I’m just learning too and this app has been a great, friendly help to my hobby. Keep hunting!
I’ll just get a hold of a real paleontologists from UNM.
Let us know what you hear.
And some people on here for sure are real paleontologists, I’m just passionate and looking to learn.
don’t take so much offense simply because you’re given Rock as an answer. this is a paleontology site, not a geology site. w
whoops, pressed send too early.
-we tend to answer rock whenever something turns out not to be a fossil, to make things simple. what TYPE of rock is not the main area of expertise of the users on the app, although there are some good geologists here in the community too.
you are not a stupid wannabe. over half of the members here are also young aspiring amateurs. the entire point is to learn from others, and we’re happy to guide you. do not lose your temper though, just ask nicely when you have additional inquiries.
