It depends on the purpose of the scans. If you are looking for science quality scans, NextEngine is the best in the market:

Makerbot has also scanners, but these are not science quality. http://store.makerbot.com/digitizer

There is an open source app that comes from Microsoft Research and claims to produce science quality scans. This will be launched this month, so I have not tested yet.
