My folks found this in a rock pile near Sturgis, Michigan. They immediately noticed the jaw-like shape and what appear to be teeth.

We’re thinking it’s some sort of wolf. Can anyone lend their 2c on what this might be?

Hi David, I’m not really sure about the actual geology, but it looks to me like an inclusion of some type of mineral (maybe calcite) within a rock. And that mineral is eroding quicker than the surrounded rock, making it look more jagged like teeth.

Hi David, Rachel is 100% correct. What you are seeing is a calcite vein within the rock.
